Take a look at Seaside: http://www.seaside.st/ and Aida:
http://www.aidaweb.si/. I use Seaside because it is available on VA
Smalltalk: http://www.instantiations.com/ but I think Aida is worth looking
at.

Also if you don't need SQL, take a look at some of the Smalltalk object
databases.

I think so. There are both free and commercial Smalltalks and object
databases available. You would need to do some research to decide which of
each is best for you.
